Waking up from one dreamland into another. I love watching the thick morning fog and low clouds crawl their way through the city streets from my highrise perch.
Perfect winter days make for busy afternoons on the dunes. This big dune, reached after a bit of desert off-roading in Al Ain, Abu Dhabi, was a hotspot for some wild driving. Souped-up SUVs, ATVs and motorcycles all took a chance at climbing this beast (with some near-hits as more and more vehicles appeared as the day wore on — swipe to vid 2), with varied results, misses, flips and getting stuck. Highly entertaining whether behind the wheel or spectating with a cup of karak.
2020 has been undeniably shit. I'm happy to see the back of it. But the very worst of this year, remarkably, unbelievably, resulted in some of the very best things to happen to me. I'm on a much better path in many ways, and I have covid to... well, I don't want to thank, so let's just call it even.
I’ve been in Abu Dhabi a month now and am finally starting to feel settled in, and, along with slightly more temperate weather, getting to explore my new neighborhood. I’ve mostly just poked around to the east of my building, which is sort of reminiscent of Satwa, Bur Dubai and Deira with its warren of sundry shops — gold and jewelry, electronics, home stuff, tea and juice, fabrics and tailors — useful to someone who’s just moved in.
