13 years ago today I landed in Dubai and became an expat. I’ve always called this my “Dubaiversary” but now that I live in Abu Dhabi that doesn’t quite work? “United Arab Anniversary” doesn’t really have the same ring...

My return to travel took me to Sri Lanka, and to the beautiful, delicious and utterly relaxing @kahandakanda boutique hotel on a small tea plantation above Lake Koggala. For my first trip abroad since the pandemic, I had to return to Sri Lanka. I’m hesitant to travel somewhere I’ve never been in these times, in case I arrive and the situation changes and things end up more restricted and I can’t explore — which is exactly what happened on this trip. I researched and booked my hotel — @kahandakanda — with that possibility in mind, however, and I couldn’t be happier spending a week on this little tea estate just above Lake Koggala. There’s wildlife aplenty, gorgeous greenery, it’s thoughtfully designed and the cuisine is phenomenal.
